The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has officially inaugurated new facilities for its Basic School, including an ultra-modern pre-school complex and expanded infrastructure for the primary and junior high school levels.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Vice Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, applauded the dedication and commitment of the Basic School staff since the school’s inception in September 2017.
“Our teachers have done more than just deliver lessons—they have demonstrated integrity, compassion, and resilience,” Prof. Asare-Bediako stated. “They’ve stayed late, sacrificed weekends, and gone beyond expectations to ensure that each child receives the attention and encouragement they need. Their efforts may not always be visible, but their impact is lasting and significant.”
A Foundation for Lifelong Learning
The newly inaugurated pre-school and additional classroom blocks are designed to offer a nurturing and stimulating environment, supporting the cognitive, emotional, and social development of young learners. These facilities are intended to lay a strong foundation for future academic achievement.

The UENR Basic School opened its doors on September 12, 2017, starting with 75 pupils (38 boys and 37 girls), six committed female teachers, three attendants, nine national service personnel, and a pioneering headmistress. Since then, the school has successfully graduated two cohorts who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Blending academic excellence with strong values and community engagement, the school reflects UENR’s broader vision of developing world-class educational institutions.
A Tribute to Vision and Perseverance
Prof. Asare-Bediako described the occasion as a celebration of past achievements and a testament to the transformative power of education. He acknowledged the foresight of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Harrison Dapaah and former Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Opuni-Frimpong, who first conceived the idea of establishing the Basic School.
He also expressed gratitude to university staff for their continued support of the school, noting, “I see a bright future for both UENR and its Basic School. However, we must continue to work hard to position the school among the best in Ghana.”

Encouraging teachers to maintain their high standards, he added, “Continue to instill knowledge and critical thinking in these young minds entrusted to your care. Watch them grow and take pride in the impact of your dedication.”
The Vice Chancellor assured that management remains committed to providing the necessary resources to sustain the growth and quality of the school.
Regional Endorsement

Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboah, who also addressed the gathering, commended UENR’s leadership for their unwavering commitment to quality education. He expressed optimism that the upgraded facility would evolve into a center of excellence for learning and development, shaping the next generation of leaders.
