Suncity Radio’s Lawrence Yeboah Gyan, Osei Laar Shine at 2024 Bono/Ahafo GJA Awards

It was a proud and memorable evening for Suncity Radio at the 2024 Bono/Ahafo Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, held at the Virgin Kourt Hotel in Sunyani as two of the station’s standout broadcasters – Mr. Lawrence Yeboah Gyan and Mr. Osei Laar – earned top honors, further cementing Suncity Radio’s position as a leader in regional journalism.

Mr. Lawrence Yeboah Gyan, a seasoned journalist known for his depth and professionalism, emerged as a double award winner. He took home the Best Feature Story Award as well as the highly regarded Best News Anchor (English) title. His compelling storytelling and confident on-air presence were recognized as exemplary within the industry.

Equally celebrated was his colleague, Mr. Osei Laar, who won the award for Best News Anchor (Twi). His clarity, fluency, and engaging delivery in the local language earned him accolades and added to the station’s impressive showing.

Together, their wins brought Suncity Radio a total of three major awards, a reflection of the station’s unwavering commitment to journalistic excellence and its growing influence across the Bono and Ahafo regions.

The event also celebrated Mr. Biiya Mukusah Ali of the Daily Graphic, who was crowned the Overall Brong Ahafo Regional Best Journalist for 2024.

Ali stood out on the night, sweeping three additional awards – Best Agroecology Reporter, Best Political Reporter, and Best Newspaper Reporter – bringing his total to four. His prize package included two laptops, plaques, and citations.

Other notable winners included Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Gyan (Sky FM), Best Feature Reporter – Radio; Mr. Michael Sarpong Mfum (Channel One TV): Best Education Reporter and Best Telecommunication Reporter; Mr. Claud Kumi Abisa (Media General): Best Health Reporter; Ms. Jasmine Akwaboah (Moonlite FM): Best Female Journalist of the Year (the only female awardee); Mr. Samuel Mensah (Peace FM): Best Crime Reporter

All winners, apart from the Overall Best Journalist, received plaques, certificates, and tablets in recognition of their achievements.

The night was not just a celebration of individual brilliance but a testament to the growing strength and integrity of journalism in the Bono and Ahafo regions.

The awards ceremony drew a cross-section of distinguished journalists, media professionals, and stakeholders from across the region. It recognized outstanding contributions across print, radio, and television categories.

The GJA regional leadership, supported by national executives, reiterated the critical role of journalists in promoting ethical standards, truth-telling, and community development.
