Story by Richard Kofi Boahen, Susuanso
Members of the Board of Trustees of Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), led by their Chairman, Prof Yaw Fosu Kusi, have visited three communities near Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region to inspect progress of work in some ongoing projects being funded by the Foundation.
The project inspection tour took them Adrobaa, Terchire and Susuanso, all within the jurisdiction of the Tano North Municipal Assembly.
At Adrobaa, the team inspected work on the ongoing works being carried out on Adrobaa Chief’s palace, which includes joinery works and the construction of a security post. When completed, the project is expected to strengthen security at the palace and provide the traditional leadership with a dignified and secure facility.
Members of the Board also inspected renovation works on the 6-classroom block for the local Roman Catholic Primary School at Terchire and similar works on the Terchire Health Centre. Both projects are undergoing structural repairs, roofing, flooring, electrical and plumbing works and general refurbishment to improve learning conditions and healthcare delivery in and around the community.

Also on the radar was the upgrading of Susuanso town roads, which has successfully been completed by KAB Brothers Company Limited ahead of schedule.
Major works included grading, drainage construction and stone pitching to improve access, manage run-off water and reduce erosion. It also seeks to enhance road conditions, prevent flooding and improve mobility for residents.
The Board members further interacted with some beneficiaries of NADeF micro-credit facility to ascertain the impact of the facility on their businesses.
The beneficiaries visited included Theresa Opoku and Peter Kwadwo Kwarteng of Terchire as well as Apostle Eric Osei and Victoria Achiaa of Susuanso.

They all told the Board that the facility has had a tremendous impact on their businesses, leading to some level of financial stability in their lives.
They, however, called for an increase in the amount advanced to them in future.

Prof Yaw Fosu Kusi, the Board Chairman, told the media after the tour that he was impressed with the quality of work done by the various contractors executing the various infrastructural projects so far.

On the request by the micro-credit facility for the beneficiaries, Prof. Fosu Kusi said the Board will deliberate further on it and take a decision at the appropriate time.
