The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Pandit Kwesi Asiama, has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, at the Nana Bosoma Royal Palace in Sunyani.
The visit formed part of the Governor’s engagement with stakeholders in the Bono Region and provided an opportunity to formally introduce the BoG’s Board and management to the traditional authority and seek his counsel and blessings.
Dr Asiama was accompanied by the First Deputy Governor, Dr Zakari Mumuni; Second Deputy Governor, Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu; and other members of the BoG Board and management. The delegation was led in the Bono Region by the BoG’s Bono Regional Manager, Mr Abdulai Lawal Abubakari.
Welcoming the delegation, Odeefour Ogyeamansan commended Dr Asiama for his leadership and the progress made in stabilising the Ghana cedi. He, however, urged the BoG to intensify efforts to curb the growing use of foreign currencies in domestic transactions, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the cedi.
The Sunyanimanhene also appealed to the BoG to consider Sunyani as a priority beneficiary of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, particularly in infrastructure and other development projects in the Bono Region.
He further urged the Board and staff to support the Governor’s vision and work collaboratively to advance the Bank’s strategic objectives. He stressed the importance of staff welfare, noting that a motivated workforce was essential to the effective functioning of the Bank.
The Paramount Chief commended Mr Abdulai Lawal Abubakari for strengthening relations between the BoG and the Sunyani Traditional Council. In recognition of his dedication and contribution to the partnership, the Council presented him with a citation.
As a gesture of hospitality, Odeefour Ogyeamansan presented the delegation with 100 tubers of yam, sacks of onions, crates of eggs and a sheep. He also honoured Dr Asiama with a traditional cloth and a pair of handcrafted sandals.
The Governor expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed the BoG’s commitment to working closely with traditional authorities to support national development.
