Akuapem South MCE under fire over corruption allegations

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akuapem South in the Eastern region, Paul Osae Offei, is at the center of a controversy, with allegations of incompetence, corruption, and ineffectiveness swirling around his leadership.

A recent petition filed by concerned residents and accredited delegates of the NDC in the Akuapem South constituency has sparked widespread outrage and calls for immediate action.

The petition, signed by Nana Kofi Akotua II, Akuapem Adonten Adumhene and chairman of the group submitted the petition to the Public Relations and Complaints Committee of the Municipal Assembly, contesting the legitimacy of Mr. Offei’s election as MCE citing some irregularities and the lack of transparency in the electoral process.

Election irregularities

The petitioners highlight significant discrepancies in the vote counts, with 16 delegates claiming to have cast “No” votes, starkly contradicting the Electoral Commission’s records of 10 “No” votes and 25 “Yes” votes.

Furthermore, Mr. Offei was accused by the petitioners of presiding over a flawed electoral process, marked by voting discrepancies, intimidation and restricted access during the election process, which raises serious concerns about the fairness and validity of the outcome.

Questionable background

The petition also sheds light on Mr. Offei’s questionable background, including a reported criminal record, professional dismissal from his previous role as a bank manager, and allegations of financial mismanagement.

The cumulative effect of these allegations has led to widespread disillusionment among assembly members, delegates, and the public.

In the light of these developments, the petitioners have urged the Public Relations and Complaints Committee to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the electoral process and Mr. Offei’s background.

Meanwhile, our News Team has intercepted a letter signed by Michael Ahwireng, the Chairman of the committee summoning Mr. Offei to appear before the Akuapem South Public Relations and Complaints Committee for questioning.
