Get aggregate 6, get financial support – Sunyanihene to BECE candidates

The Sunyani Traditional Council has assured public basic school candidates taking part in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Sunyani that anyone who obtains aggregate six will be supported financially to continue his or her education.

The move is to ensure that brilliant but needy pupils are given the opportunity to access secondary education and contribute meaningfully to the development of the country.

The Omanhene of Sunyani, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, announced this when he visited BECE candidates who are writing their exams at the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC).

Accompanied by the Akwamuhene, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng Ababio, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Mark Godfred Domah and the Presiding Member of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, Abdul Razak, the Omanhene was at the exams centre to motivate the candidates to emerge in flying colours.

Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II warned the candidates against examination malpractices, especially as that practice is gradually denting the image of the Bono Region.

He observed that examination does not necessarily reward intelligence but rather hard work and dedication and for that matter they should remain calm to have the best composure to recall what they have read and taught in their various schools.

The Omanhene assured them that he was with them in prayers and in his thoughts and that they should go to the examination halls courageously, hoping to excel at the end of the day.

Regional Child Rights Protection Committee

In another development, members of the Bono Regional Child Rights Protection Committee have paid a courtesy call on the Omanhene of Sunyani, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II to brief him about the activities of the committee and their roles in the lives of children in the Bono Region, including Sunyani the regional capital.

The RCPC consists of Directors and representatives of several governmental and non-governmental organizations such as the Department of Social Welfare, Ghana Prisons Service, Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Department of Gender, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Friends of Health (FOHA), Sunyani Youth Development (SYDA), Ghana Health Service, among others.

Mr. George Yaw Ankamah, who led the delegation, wished the chief well on his installation as the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and expressed optimism about his impact on children as has been visible in his efforts at redeeming the Sunyani Children’s Park to promote children’s welfare.

Mr. Ankamah emphasized the need to be intentional about the welfare of children and further expressed his excitement in having a Chief who had children’s interest at heart.

In his remarks, the Sunyanihene noted the right of children must be protected in all circumstances, adding that a country that has no clear intention in upholding the interest of children cannot have any better plans for adults.

Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II pledged to take personal interest in the affairs of children and issues that bother them.

National Ambulance Service

Also at the Omanhene’s palace was a delegation from the Bono Regional Command of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) led by Mr. Alfred Kwabena Amoah, the Regional Commander.

Other members were Messrs. Eric Mills, Deputy Regional Commander; Boateng Adu Marfo, Regional Transport Manager; Adams Abdul-Samad, Regional PRO & Training Officer and Kusi Frempong Joseph, Regional Accounts Officer.

They shared some of their operational constraints including office accommodation, breakdown of vans, among others.

The Regional Commander made a passionate appeal to the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Traditional Area for support toward the construction of a dedicated regional office to improve operational efficiency.

Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II expressed gratitude for their visit and lauded the personnel of the NAS for their dedication to saving lives, often at great personal risk and pledged his assistance towards the proposed construction of the regional office.
