Ahafo Region vows to curb malpractices during BECE

Education and political authorities in the Ahafo region say they have put in place measures to minimize examination malpractice during the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

This year’s BECE started last Wednesday and will last for one week.

The authorities say this has become necessary to redeem the image of the Ahafo region, which is currently among the top three regions in the country where examination malpractices are very prevalent.

The Ahafo Regional Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Jatong Laar, said these during an intervention by the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North to distribute mathematical set free of charge to all 2025 BECE candidates in his constituency made up of 3,426 candidates.

According to him, the region has secured all examination centres and beefed-up invited security to protect the centres and cautioned invigilators and supervisors, who are all themselves teachers, to follow laid down rules and regulations in writing the examination.

He warned all those who have nothing to do with the examination never to go near the examination centres else will have themselves to blame

No foreign materials

Speaking to rbnewshub.com at Mim, he urged the students to feel at home and write the exams without fear but never attempt to engage in any malpractice by bringing foreign materials in the exam hall and jeopardizing their bright future.

The MP for the area, Haruna Mohammed, affectionately called BA assisted by the Municipal Chief Executive of Asunafo North, Joseph Akparibo, distributed the Mathematical sets to the candidates both in public and private schools in the area.

Some of the beneficiary schools include Goaso Presby JHS, Goaso Assembly of God JHS, Goaso Methodist JHS, Mim SDA JHS, Agyei One Girls School, Akrodie Methodist JHS, Fawohoyeden JHS and others.

The MP was happy he was able to do the distribution saying it is the first of its kind in the municipality and shall continue every year.

He said the gesture is to take financial burden out of parents and ensure human resource development in the constituency because it is not always the case that politicians should concentrate on road, water and other infrastructure.

He advised the candidates to desist from exam malpractice but work hard to come out with flying colours.

He promised more students centred policies and programmes to support them at the next stage of their educational journey if they excel in this first external examination they are to embark on.

The Asunafo North MCE, Joseph Akparibo, on his part, advised the students to be patient and write the exam since what their teachers taught them is what is going to come.

He warned teachers who attempt to lure candidates into malpractice to have themselves blamed when caught because their certificates shall be confiscated.

The students thanked the MP and said they were ready for tomorrow’s papers.
