The Ghanaian European Centre for Jobs, Migration and Development (GEC) in collaboration the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani will be hosting information session on educational and job opportunities in Europe.
The GEC provides advice on regular migration, local labour market opportunities and the socio-economic reintegration of returning Ghanaian migrants.
The upcoming information session, which comes off this Monday at ten o’clock in the morning at UENR will, among others, raise awareness among students, recent graduates, and young professionals about Europe as an attractive destination for higher education, training, and employment.
Interacting with the media in Sunyani ahead of the program, Technical Advisor at the Sunyani office of the Ghanaian European Centre for Jobs, Migration & Development, Jemilatu Aryee, further explained that the event will highlight structured migration pathways, available scholarships, vocational training opportunities, and safe and regular migration channels.
“We’re looking at promoting regular migration in the right way and ensuring that we empower students by giving them the right information they need (migration advice). Most of the time we realize that our youth have the potential; they have the talent, they have the brains but when they want to travel, ……. so it is important that we give them information about educational opportunities outside….GEC is Europe focused and we bring to them information about Europe, especially on education and work”, she explained.
She extended an invitation to all students, job seekers, parents, and the public to take advantage of this opportunity to keep themselves of the requirements for studying or working in Europe, tips for preparing for academic and career opportunities abroad, as well as get to know more about the support services provided by the Ghanaian-European Centre.
Madam Jemilatu Aryee hinted of similar sessions with students and staff of the Sunyani Technical University.
For her part, Miss Cornelia Karikari, a level 300 student pursuing BSc (Nursing) at UENR welcomed the opportunity being offered by GEC and expressed the hope that her colleague students will take full advantage of it to better their lot.
The German Cooperation in Ghana and the EU launched a joint action on May 12, 2023, as part of measures to address Ghana’s high youth unemployment and underemployment rates,
This collaboration seeks to empower Ghanaian youth, promote regular migration, engage the diaspora, and foster reintegration, and ensure strengthened employment services on the national, regional, and local level and holds the key to transforming lives and unlocking the immense potential of the Ghanaian workforce.
