Sunyani youth get state-of-the-art digital hub and adolescent clinic

A Gh.c 200,000 digital hub and adolescent clinic aimed at enhancing the well-being and development of adolescents in Sunyani has been inaugurated as part of the Resilient City for Adolescents Project.

The opening of this facility marks a significant milestone in the journey towards creating sustainable, healthy cities for adolescents and underscores the power of collaboration and innovation in addressing urban challenges and sets a precedent for future projects aimed at empowering the youth.

Global Media Foundation LBG, in collaboration with its partners, Indigenous Women Empowerment Network LBG and Citizens Watch Ghana LBG, outdoored this initiative as a way of promoting sustainable and healthy urban environments for young people.

The newly inaugurated facility, located in the heart of Sunyani, is designed to serve as a safe and innovative space for young people to access critical health services, digital literacy and empowerment initiatives.

The center is also expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the unique challenges faced by adolescents in urban settings, including access to healthcare, education, and technology.

Technology-driven future

The digital hub is equipped with modern computers and internet access, providing about 2000 adolescents with the tools they need to enhance their digital skills and prepare for a technology-driven future.

Workshops and training sessions will be conducted regularly, focusing on digital literacy, coding, and other essential skills that are increasingly important in today’s job market.

The adolescent clinic, integrated within the hub, offers a range of health services tailored to the needs of young people.

These include sexual and reproductive health education, mental health support, and general health check-ups. By providing these services in a youth-friendly environment, the clinic aims to reduce barriers to healthcare access and promote healthier lifestyles among adolescents.

In attendance at the inauguration were local government officials from Sunyani Municipal Assembly and Sunyani West Municipal Assembly, as well as officials of the Ghana Health Service, the Ghana Education Service. Also present were community leaders and representatives of various partner organizations.

Resilient and sustainable cities

The Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Foundation LBG, Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu, emphasized the importance of investing in the youth to build resilient and sustainable cities.

“Our vision is to create a supportive environment where young people can thrive, both physically and digitally. By equipping them with the necessary skills and health services, we are laying the foundation for a healthier, more sustainable future,” Mr. Ahenu stated.

Local government officials present lauded the initiative, highlighting its alignment with national goals for youth development and urban sustainability and expressed the optimism that the project would serve as a model for similar initiatives across the country.

The Resilient City for Adolescents Project is part of a broader effort to integrate sustainable development goals into urban planning, with a particular focus on youth empowerment. By addressing the multifaceted needs of adolescents, the project aims to foster a generation of informed, healthy, and engaged citizens who can contribute positively to their communities.

As the Digital Hub and Adolescent Clinic begin operations, Global Media Foundation LBG and its partners are committed to monitoring and evaluating the impact of the project.

They intend to gather feedback from participants and stakeholders to continuously improve the services offered and ensure that the initiative meets the evolving needs of young people.
