The Dwenase Women Farmers Association has organized a day’s entrepreneurship training programme on beads-making for some 53 women in Dwenase near Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region.
With funding by the Global Greengrant Fund (GGF) the program formed part of the Association’s ‘teach one, teach one’ entrepreneurship project, which aims at empowering and equipping women in the Dwenase community with valuable skills for personal use, entrepreneurial endeavors, and community development.
Participants were drawn from Dwenase and surrounding communities such as Apesika, Kwaff, Kwa-bena, Master Nkwanta and Dwenase Number Two.
Women empowerment
The training constituted Phase II of training programmes lined up for various women groups in the Ahafo Region to empower them economically. Under Phase I, 86 women from the Dwenase community received free entrepreneurship training on the production of parasol, liquid soap, after-wash, washing powder and brown sugar.
The Resource Person for the programme, Lucy Annor, took the participants through the practical ways of making beads from local raw materials which are readily available in their communities and encouraged them to take the training seriously to enhance their livelihoods.
She said the skills acquired from the training, when used, will earn them extra income and boost their income levels as climate change continues to negatively affect farming activities in the area.
Welcoming the participants earlier, the Lead Person of the Dwenase Women Farmers Association, Esther Larbi, underscored the importance of the training programme and entreated the participants to attach maximum seriousness to the knowledge and skills acquired afterwards.
She noted that with determination, proper planning and a focused mindset, they could improve their income levels if they put into practice what they have learnt.
She used the occasion to thank GGF bountifully for their kind support.

Global Greengrants Fund believes solutions to environmental harm and social injustice come from people whose lives are most impacted.
Global Greengrants Fund is different from other international organizations in that GGF does not try to dictate an agenda from afar. Instead, it trusts local people to advance solutions and strategies that will best fit their needs, providing them with the resources to make their ideas a reality.
To get money into the hands of people with the most effective solutions, Global Greengrants designed a grantmaking model that allows us to find and invest in ideas without bureaucracy or red tape. We offer a 30-year track record of success funding decisions made by our trusted network of dedicated volunteer experts, who act as our eyes and ears on the ground.
