Eighty-six women in Dwenase near Duayaw Nkwanta in the Ahafo Region have benefitted from free entrepreneurship training organized under the auspices of the Global Greengrant Fund (GGF).
The Dwenase Women Farmers Association organized the program under its ‘teach one, teach one’ entrepreneurship project as part of measures to empower and equip women in the Dwenase community with valuable skills for personal use, entrepreneurial endeavors, and community development.
The training constituted Phase I of training programmes lined up for various women groups in the Ahafo Region to empower them economically.
The women were trained in the production of parasol, liquid soap, after-wash, washing powder and brown sugar.
The Lead Person of the Dwenase Women Farmers Association, Esther Larbi, noted that the knowledge and skills acquired by the participants will go a long way to promote good hygiene practices within the community and contribute to the overall health and economic well-being by encouraging regular handwashing in the Dwenase community and improving socio-economic development of women, adding that women are the hardest hit by unemployment issue.
Lucy Annor, the Coordinator of Tano Women Empowerment and Development Association (TWEDA) and the Resource Person for the programme, impressed upon the participants to take the training seriously to enhance their livelihoods.
She said the skills acquired from the training, when put to use, will earn them extra income and boost their income levels as climate change continues to affect farming and production in the area.
Madam Annor also exposed them to the negative effects of the continuous use of fertilizer and how to produce and apply organic weedicides and effective controls of pets.
She also educated the participants on the effects and causes of climate change and introduced them to some mitigation and climate resilience adaptation strategies. She encouraged them to join the crusade to protect and safeguard the environment for the future.
