The 8th edition of Sonodwaeɛ Art and Technology festival has successfully ended with a beautiful display of various fashionable dresses for virtually all kinds of occasions – full of education and entertainment.
Sonodwaeɛ is an annual event organized by the Department of Visual and Industrial Art of the Sunyani Technical University (STU) as part of the requirements for the award of the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) degrees.

The festival offers a unique platform for students to showcase the practical skills they have acquired throughout their training in areas such as clothing and textiles, ceramics, interior design, and fine art.



From design works of 24 students in the maiden edition of the festival in May 2017, this year’s event featured 128 students, consisting of 79 HND students and 49 B-Tech students.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life thronged the Kwasi Nsiah Gyabaa Auditorium, where the event took place, to witness the event, which was under the theme: “From Vision to Vogue.”
STU’s Deputy Director of Finance, Mr. Solomon Abina; the Dean of Students, Dr. (Mrs.) Vida Owusu Prempeh; the University’s Chaplain, Rev Gideon Hackman; the Head of the Visual and Industrial Art Department, Mr. Abel Nimo-Boakye and the Head of the Marketing Department, Dr. Abraham Yeboah, who presided over ceremony, as well as several other staff members of the University were present at the event.



The closing session of the event saw the final year HND, and B-Tech students display their handiwork in various wear for virtually all kinds of occasions in a well-rehearsed catwalk on a beautifully raised stage for the event.
Welcoming the gathering, the Head of the Visual and Industrial Art Department, Mr. Abel Nimo-Boakye, said his department currently has a student population of 720, representing 14.29% from last year’s and expressed the hope that the festival will further increase students’ intake for the next academic year.

He paid glowing tribute to the Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah; the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Applied Arts, Prof. Evans Zoya Kpammah and all those who have been instrumental in the success of the festival.
