The Local Government Service Association of Physical Planners (LOGSAPP) has called for effective collaboration between engineers and physical development planners to facilitate the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Planner Gifty Nyarko, the National Interim President of LOGSAPP acknowledged the crucial role engineers were playing in shaping and promoting sustainable communities.

Speaking to Rbnewshub.com, she expressed appreciation and solidarity to engineers around the world for their restless efforts towards global development.

Touching on the theme for this year’s World Engineering Day which is: “unleashing the power of engineers to advance the sustainable development goals”, she described the theme as “timely, because engineers were among the leaders in finding innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.”

Collaboration

Pln. Nyarko noted that the collaboration between engineers and physical development planners was indispensable in addressing the issues of rapid urbanization, climate change and social equity challenges society faces.

She said engineers are essential in the development of resilient infrastructure and energy-efficient systems that support sustainable cities.

Additionally, the work of engineers is critical in ensuring urban spaces are not only functional, but also capable of withstanding the impacts of climate change and societal needs, she stated.

Pln. Nyarko further noted the combined efforts of engineers and physical planners would help in designing robust cities to meet the needs of both the people and the environment.

By working together, pln. Nyarko observed both professionals can put their expertise together to address urban sprawl, resource depletion as well as social inequality and strive towards inclusive and sustainable urban growth.

Climate change

She further outlined engineers play pivotal roles in combating climate change, promoting renewable energy, green technologies and proper waste management systems.

Pln. Nyarko stressed the achievements of engineers were foundational in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals, explaining that engineers were relentless in their commitment to reducing carbon footprints and creating sustainable solutions for the future.

In that regard, “both engineers and planners must continue to work collaboratively toward building a more sustainable, equitable world”, hence, Pln. Nyarko reaffirmed the support of LOGSAPP to the work of engineers for attainment of SDGs, particularly Goals 9, 11 and 13.
