Story Apiah Kubi, Bono Manso
The Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North, Joseph Kwasi Mensah, has organized a free eye screening exercise for residents of Bono Manso in the Nkoranza North District. The initiative aimed to support constituents suffering from various eye conditions, especially those unable to afford clinical care.
The outreach, held recently, provided free medication and eyeglasses to individuals diagnosed with mild eye issues. Those with more severe conditions were referred to for surgery to correct their vision impairments.
Speaking to Apiah Kubi, our correspondent in Nkoranza, Mr. Joseph Mensah explained that the exercise was part of his commitment to addressing the growing eye health needs in the constituency. “As a representative of the people, I’ve observed a worrying rise in eye-related health problems. Many simply can’t afford the cost of treatment, so I felt compelled to act,” he stated.
Range of eye conditions
The event saw participation from trained eye specialists who screened residents for a range of conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and refractive errors.
A total of 88 individuals received free prescription eyeglasses during the exercise.

“Those with serious cases will undergo surgery to help restore their sight, while others will continue with appropriate medication,” the MP assured. “This brings great relief to my people, and I’m proud to have initiated this intervention.”
Mr. Mensah also revealed that the eye care initiative would continue across all five zones within the district. “We intend to make this a recurring program, allowing beneficiaries to return for reviews, and offering new patients the chance to receive treatment,” he added.
Residents who benefitted from the screening and received eyeglasses expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MP, applauding his compassion and dedication to their wellbeing.
Since assuming office as the MP for Nkoranza North, Mr. Mensah has been working tirelessly to improve the living conditions of his constituents.
