Sunyani Paramount Chief joins Muslims to mark Eid al-Adha

The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, yesterday joined Muslims in Sunyani to mark this year’s Eid al-Adha, the Muslim festival marking the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and commemorating the sacrifice of Abraham.

Eid al-Adha is the second of the two main festivals in Islam alongside Eid al-Fitr. It falls on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijja, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar. Celebrations and observances are generally carried forward to the three following days, known as the Tashreeq days.

In a groundbreaking gesture, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II donated a ram and 50 packs of bottled water.

Addressing the Muslims, the Omanhene urged them to prioritize cleanliness in Sunyani, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to restore the city’s reputation as the cleanest in Ghana.

Additionally, he encouraged Muslim leaders to combine formal education with Islamic teachings to empower the youth, broaden their opportunities, and enhance their dignity in society.

Retired Footballers

In another development, a delegation of the Retired Footballers Association in Sunyani has paid a courtesy visit to Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani.

The delegation, which was led by Mr. Augustine Asante, congratulated Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II on his new role and assured him of their unwavering readiness to serve him whenever called upon. 

The retired players expressed concerns about the declining fortunes of Sunyani-based football clubs, BA United and Bofoakwa Tano and appealed for the kind support of the Omanhene to help push Sunyani-based football clubs to the Ghana Premier League.

The retired players also sought the intervention of the Paramount Chief to foster unity among the two football clubs, which is key to their success.

On his part, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II expressed gratitude for their visit and thanked the retired footballers for their immense contributions during their active football life, which made Sunyani a toast of the football fraternity in the country.

The Sunyanihene pledged to support football sport, and in particular help elevate both BA United and Bofoakwa Tano Football Clubs to the Ghana Premier League within the shortest possible time. 

He however expressed grave concern about the rising spate of hooliganism in football in the country, and particularly in Sunyani, which has marred the beauty and benefits of football sport and advised the retired footballers and all key stakeholders to educate supporters of the various football clubs to be of good behavior to promote the dignity of the game.
