Various organisations continue to lend support to efforts to promote sustainable environment through afforestation and contribute to climate action.
One of such organisations, Ahafo Young Women Movement (AyoM) with funding by the Global Greengrants Fund (GGF), has embarked on a tree planting exercise on the premises of Radio B.A.R in Sunyani. Various species of seedlings were planted at selected portions of the radio station.

Livelihood and Environment Ghana (LEG), Women Integrated Development Association, Tano Women Empowerment and Development Association, Women Association for Environmental Sustainability, Network for Women’s Rights and Environmental Governance and the Department of Forest Science of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) collaborated with AyoM to make the exercise a success.
The Executive Director of LEG, Richard Adjei-Poku, told the media during the tree planting exercise that this year’s World Environment Day 2025 focuses on ending plastic pollution.
He explained that trees play a vital role in reducing the health and environmental impacts pollution as they absorb fluorocarbons and other pollutants to reduce the impact of greenhouse gas emissions; hence, the tree planting exercise.
Mr. Adjei-Poku thanked GGF for funding for the exercise.
The Bono Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Christiana Kumah, thanked LEG and the other organisations that joined the exercise for their kind gesture and promised that the seedlings will be well taken care of so they can grow as expected.

“Looking round Radio B.A.R premises, you would realize that the environment is greenery. This is because we take tree planting very seriously and we appreciate the importance of trees. We are intentional in nurturing all trees planted here until they are fully matured”, she further said.
As part of the occasion, organizers of the exercise had a live radio discussion programme on Radio B.A.R to deepen awareness about World Environment Day, its significance and the benefits of protecting the environment for the future.

It’s inspiring to see such a collaborative effort to address environmental issues, especially the focus on ending plastic pollution. The involvement of multiple organizations and the emphasis on tree planting highlight the importance of collective action. I appreciate how the event also included a live radio discussion to raise awareness—it’s a great way to engage the community. However, I wonder how the long-term impact of these initiatives will be measured. Will there be follow-up activities to ensure the trees are thriving and the message continues to resonate? Also, how can individuals contribute more effectively to such efforts? It’s encouraging to see the commitment to nurturing the environment, but I’d love to hear more about the challenges faced and how they’re being overcome.
We’ve integrated libersave into our regional voucher system. It’s amazing how easily it brings together various providers on one platform.
