Healthy Future

The programme was organised by the Energy Commission in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service under the theme: “Sustainable Energy for a Healthy Future.”

Participating schools were expected to develop a project using renewable energy technologies for a sustainable healthy life, food security and waste management.

During the competition, each school was given ten minutes to explain and demonstrate the environmental and health benefits of their product or innovation, after which judges ask questions.

The winners presented a solar dehydrator designed to address issues relating to losses of fruits and vegetables and to save lives.

Mr Julius Nkansah-Nyanko, the General Manager, Renewable Energy Commission, in an interview, said the competition stood as a beacon of hope, helping to bridge the gap between academia and industry, adding that renewable energy was central to the nation’s energy transition and its overall social-economic development.

“We take the innovative ideas from the students very seriously and aim to improve upon the things they brought during the challenge”, Mr. Julius emphasized.

He congratulated the winners and encouraged them to work harder as they prepared to represent the region at the zonal level.

He also urged the remaining schools not to be discouraged because the commission has offers for them so that their job will not be in vain.

For his part, the Bono East Regional STEM coordinator, Mr. David Mensah, expressed his satisfaction with the students’ performance.

“I believe the students can use their projects as employable skills for themselves”, Mr. Mensah stated.

Mr. Mensah Agyapa, the Headmaster of Kintampo SHS, expressed the region’s gratitude to the organisers, sponsors, teachers and students for the good job done.

He noted that though it was not easy to win the challenge, they will not disgrace the region at the national level.
