The Omanhene of Sunyani, Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, has condemned reports of examination malpractices among some basic school pupils in the Sunyani Municipality and called for effective measures to deal with the issue.
He is therefore encouraging students and pupils to study hard and desist from the practice where some of them carry foreign materials to the examination hall with a view to getting higher marks at the end of the day.
Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II made these remarks during a courtesy call on him by officials of the Sunyani Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) led by the Municipal Director, Mr. Mark Godfred Domah.

The GES delegation included Mr. George Arthur, who oversees Administration and Finance; Mrs. Yaa Kumi Yeboah, Head of the Inspectorate Division, and Madam Lydia Effah Duodu, SHEP Coordinator.
Educational standards
The Sunyanihene commended the Municipal GES Directorate for its efforts at improving standards of education in his traditional area and asked the Municipal Director and his team to step up collaboration with relevant bodies to further improve the quality of education, especially at the basic level.
He expressed grave concern about the poor sanitary and general environmental conditions of some schools in Sunyani, adding that he was not happy about the presence of metal containers around school compounds.
Ɔdɛɛfoɔ Ɔgyeamansan Boahen Korkor II emphasized his commitment towards efforts aimed at improving conditions of schools within his jurisdiction and pledged to assist brilliant but needy students through an educational fund.
Strategic plan
The Municipal Director, Mr. Mark Godfred Domah, presented a five-year strategic plan to the Omanhene for his study.
The plan is aimed at enhancing education in the municipality, addressing key challenges such as theft of school property, among others.
The GES officials appealed for collaboration with the municipal assembly to introduce by-laws restricting students’ movements during school hours and at night.
Mr. Ransford Antwi, the Chairman of the Lands and Property Committee of the Sunyani Traditional Council, criticized financial exploitation of students by teachers under the guise of offering exams assistance, and proposed the installation of CCTV cameras in examination centres to deal with the issue.

The meeting ended with a commitment to addressing the issues discussed through joint action.
