Nkoranza North communities get potable water

Some 900 residents of Timiabu, Madina and Konkrompe in the Nkoranza North District of the Bono East Region will soon have access to potable and clean water after years of relying on nearby streams for their water needs.

The Nkoranza North District Chief Executive (DCE), Effah Patrick, yesterday cut the sod for the drilling works on mechanized boreholes for these communities to enhance the quality of life for the rural dwellers.

This is in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which emphasizes access to safe and affordable drinking water for all, with an emphasis on improving the quality and sustainability of water resources

SDG 6 further addresses the sustainable management of water resources, including wastewater treatment and the protection of water-related ecosystems as well as a holistic approach to water management, considering various sectors and water stress levels.

Access to clean water and sanitation can improve household income and reduce the burden of water collection on women and girls, especially in rural areas.

The provision of these mechanized boreholes is also in fulfillment of Mr. Effah’s promise shortly after his confirmation and assumption of office in the Nkoranza North DCE to accelerate development in the area.

He told our correspondent in Nkoranza that “water is life”, emphasizing its importance to families and children.

He highlighted the relief the water system will bring and its potential to avert a water crisis in the areas.

The community members expressed appreciation for the DCE’s support, acknowledging the project’s impact on their socio-economic well-being and appealed for continued support to ensure the project’s completion.

The people of Timiabu, Madina and Konkrompe expressed gratefulness for the DCE’s unwavering support in enhancing their quality of life through improved access to clean water.

Global Challenge

Millions of people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water and sanitation, highlighting the need for concerted global efforts to achieve SDG 6.

SDG 6 touches on access to water and sanitation for all. Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is the most basic human need for health and well-being. Billions of people will lack access to these basic services in 2030 unless progress quadruples.
