The Ghana Medical Trust Fund Secretariat, known as Mahama Cares, has donated two dialysis machines to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital to enhance specialist treatment for chronic conditions such as kidney failure, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and stroke.

The Administrator of Mahama Cares, Obobia Darko-Opoku, presented the machines to the Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboah, who received them on behalf of the hospital. The minister expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the intervention, describing it as a significant step toward improving healthcare in the Bono Region. He also expressed optimism about the arrival of additional medical equipment to further strengthen services at the facility.
EU Cycling Initiative
Separately, the Regional Minister hosted a European Union delegation that invited him to support a cycling initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. The bicycle journey will begin in Tamale and pass through Buipe, Kintampo, Techiman, Sunyani, Kumasi, Nkawkaw, and Aburi before ending in Accra.

The initiative will include the planting of 1,000 tree seedlings along the route, with participation from ten ambassadors representing various European countries.
UENR–New Mexico Tech Collaboration
The minister also received a delegation from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, led by Dean of Engineering Professor Corey Leclerc. The team held discussions on a potential partnership with the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), focusing on exchange programmes with the university’s Petroleum Engineering Department.
Mr. Addae Akwaboah expressed hope that the collaboration would strengthen academic and research opportunities at UENR.
Tree Crop Regulation
In another meeting, the Regional Minister hosted officials from the Tree Crop Development Authority (TCDA), led by Director of Operations Dr. Kofi Twum Antwi, along with industry representatives and the 2025 Regional Best Farmer.
Discussions focused on enforcing TCDA regulations, particularly in the cashew sector, to improve standards, sustainability, and overall regulation of the tree crop industry. The minister reaffirmed his support for reforms aimed at strengthening the sector.
