GNAFF urges farmers to reject calls for boycott of 41st farmers day celebration

The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) has called on all farmers across the country to reject and disregard recent calls for a boycott of this year’s 41st National Farmers Day Celebration, emphasizing the importance of unity and participation in the annual event that honors the nation’s hardworking farmers and fishers.

In a statement signed by its President, Mr. Michael Tetteh Kwetey, GNAFF described the celebration as a vital national platform that recognizes the tireless contributions of farmers to Ghana’s development.

The association urged all farmers and stakeholders to actively take part in the festivities rather than withdrawing their participation.

“This important event honors the dedication and hard work of Ghanaian farmers, and GNAFF encourages all farmers to participate and celebrate their contributions to the nation’s development,” the statement read.

While acknowledging the challenges confronting the agricultural sector, GNAFF reassured farmers of its unwavering commitment to work with government and other stakeholders to address long-standing issues affecting productivity and livelihoods.

“We are fully aware of the challenges faced by farmers. GNAFF remains committed and dedicated to finding lasting solutions in collaboration with the government,” the association noted.

Assurance to rice farmers

GNAFF also addressed concerns raised by rice farmers over difficulties in selling their produce. According to the association, discussions are ongoing with relevant agencies and private sector partners to secure reliable markets and buyers for locally produced rice.

“We are actively working with stakeholders to connect rice farmers with appropriate markets and reliable buyers. We urge rice farmers and all affected farmers to remain patient as we work to resolve these issues,” the statement assured.

Call for calm and unity

The association appealed for calm among farmers, urging them to remain focused on their crucial role in national food security while GNAFF continues its advocacy efforts.

“We call on all farmers to remain focused and calm, with the utmost respect, as we work hard to feed the nation. GNAFF is committed to advocating for farmers’ rights and ensuring their interests are protected,” Mr. Kwetey emphasized.

The 41st National Farmers Day Celebration, slated for December, will recognize the achievements of outstanding farmers and fishers across the country. GNAFF reiterated its belief that full participation in the event would not only celebrate the resilience of Ghana’s farming community but also strengthen collective efforts toward finding sustainable solutions to sector challenges.
