Ghana doesn’t need Presidential Envoy to receive prophesies – Rev. Father

The Chaplain at the Holy Family Ghanaian Catholic Community Church, Pordenone, Italy, Reverend Father Albert Kyei Danso, has emphatically stated that there is no need for the taxpayer’s money to be used to operate an office at the Presidency to be receiving prophecies.

He is of the view that: “Ghana doesn’t need Presidential envoy to receive prophesies for government”, because their gifts from God to see beyond normal and the freedom they enjoy by reading spiritual meanings into events must be guided by Christian morals and political ethics to help nation building and not to destabilize the country.

The faith of the Prophets, Men of God and Ministers of the Gospel must therefore be “prudently woven into politics to form good decisions in governance and not threatening the peace and stability of the entire nation.”

Gov’t’s directive

The John Mahama-led government recently directed that all national prophecies, especially those involving government officials, be addressed to the Presidency.

In a statement dated August 10, 2025, and signed by Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the Presidency said the move is aimed at strengthening national coordination on spiritual matters and ensuring such revelations are handled with responsibility.

Acting on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah urged church leaders to advise prophets under their oversight to share prophecies of national importance “for urgent review and appropriate escalation.”

“Any prophecy or spiritual insight of a national nature, especially those with implications for high-profile political leaders, governance, national security, or public stability, should be formally relayed to the Office of the Presidential Envoy,” the statement read in part.

Divine message

But in an interview, the Chaplain at the Holy Family Ghanaian Catholic Community Church, Pordenone, Italy, Reverend Father Albert Kyei Danso, explained that: “When the prophet and prophetess have a divine message, let him or her discern, pray about it and intercept it as Cardinal Turkson puts it”, Rev. Fr. Danso indicated.

Citing Jonah 3:1-4, he said God can sometimes give a caution to call his people to true repentance in order not to incur the wrath of God, but “sometimes not everything God reveals to the Prophet is meant for the nation.”

Reverend Father Kyei Danso emphasized: “One needs divine order before he can break the news, which is the mind of God, and even when permitted, the Prophet must know the appropriate way and timing to communicate it.”

The man of God further explained that “where one man’s freedom ends, there another man’s freedom begins”, therefore the individual liberty to prophecy is not absolute and must be balanced with the rights and freedom of others, by being moderate, with considerate life that respect the collective goal of the society and not self-centered.

Commercialization of prophecies

He further advised fellow Clergymen not to commercialize their spiritual gifts for fame to score political points. Saying, “What do we have that we did not receive?” (I Cor 4:7

Rev. Fr. Danso indicated “Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to help us understand the current of grace and be led by Him to true freedom”.

Adding that, even though the Prophetic ministry plays a crucial role in the Church, “One doesn’t need the prophetic ministry to score political points and media fame”.

let us the Priests and Pastors not give the impression that, to be a minister of the Gospel, one must be a Prophet, and the prophetic ministry is more important than the other gifts of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Fr. Danso said.

“The prophetic church is for service and the building of the body of Christ and not for one’s personal gain.”

Referring to the concept of prophecy in the scriptures, Rev. Fr. Danso said God gave his people the prophets to purposely serve as emissaries and mouthpiece of God, in demonstrating his divine presence, through communicating the present and future mind of God from time to time to reminds the covenant God had with his people.

Citing II Corinthians 2:10, the Priest said God reveals to redeem, hence, the Prophet ought to intercept for the mercies into the nation and not only to bargain with God.

He also spoke against the commercialization of prophecies for fame to score political points, saying: “When prophecy is abused, misinterpreted and not handled well, it could cause more harm than the intended good for which it is revealed.”

The Rev. Father pleaded with his colleague priests, ministers and men of God to “exercise wisdom, prudence and maturity” in giving and interpreting prophesies.

Touching on what he termed as some hard spiritual truth about the prophetic Ministry, Rev. Fr. Danso revealed that “sometimes not everything God reveals to the Prophet is meant for the nation”.

“One needs divine order before can break the news, which is the mind of God, and even when permitted, the Prophet must know the appropriate way and timing to communicate it”.

Rev. Fr. Danso said “one does not receive prophecy and begin to communicate it as the final truth, it could be a deceit since the devil too can also reveal something through sorcery, divination and magic to outsmart the people.

In that regard, he said “the Apostles and Bishops were there to discern and vet the authenticity of the prophecy, considering when, how, through whom and under what circumstance the message was revealed”.

According to Rev. Fr. Danso, the Prophetic Ministry plays a crucial role in nation building and services, therefore implored the Priests and Pastors not to use the prophetic Ministry to score political points, media fame or by commercializing it for one’s personal gains.

Intercessory role of prophets

The Priest referred that in the case of Abraham when God through the three Divine Persons revealed to him of going to Sodom and Gomorrah to destroy the nation for their atrocities, Abraham interceded that God may have mercy on them and spare them.

As humans, there is always the tendency to be like Jonah who wanted to score a mark as proof that he is a true prophet after the prophecy has been fulfilled, when is meant for their conversion.

Such prophets in Scripture would say:” Lord, you have seduced me, and I have allowed myself to be seduced”(Jer 20:7) she stated.

Hard Spiritual Truth

Rev. Fr. Danso stressed that it is interesting to know that sometimes not everything that God reveals to the Prophet is meant for the nation and added that from the Christian experiences, one does not receive prophecy and begin to communicate it as the final truth, “When permitted to do so, wisdom must attach the prophet must know the appropriate timing and appropriate way to communicate it.”

Because “it could be a deceit since the devil too through sorcery, divination and magic can also reveal something to outsmart”, Rev. Fr. Danso said adding that: “That’s why the Apostles or Bishops are there, to discern and vet the authenticity of the prophecy, considering when, how, through whom and under what circumstance the message was revealed.”
