The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF), in partnership with the World Gold Council, has presented assorted equipment meant to enhance teaching and learning at the Gyedu Technical Institute at Gyedu in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region.
The equipment, valued at about Gh.c 233,088.00, are to be installed at the Institute’s Skills Development Laboratory, which was also built by NADeF years ago.
They include 15 sigma gas cylinders, 20 gas stoves with two big burners, a locally manufactured gas oven, a refrigerator, a deep-freezer, one SG-gemsy embroidery sewing machine, one SG-gemsy knitting sewing machine, 27 SG-gemsy digital industrial sewing machine and a locally manufactured block making machine with two cuts.

Community development initiatives
Speaking at the presentation, the Executive Secretary of NADeF, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, said the amount spent on the items donated was part of a $50,000 support from the World Gold Council to drive community development initiatives in Ahafo North and Ahafo South.
According to her, part of the amount was recently used to acquire and distribute sanitary pads and bags to female pupils from Primary Five to final year Junior High School students in Newmont’s host communities and their surrounding areas.
She mentioned the Skills Lab and the on-going three-storey block as some of the projects undertaken by NADeF in the Institute and assured the students and staff of the Foundation’s continuing support towards the growth and development of the institute.

Joseph Danso, the Director of Social Performance, Newmont Africa, presented the items on behalf of NADeF while the Principal of the Gyedu Technical Institute, Mr. Martin Kpiekyene, received them for the school.
