Cashew Watch Ghana (CWG), a civil society platform made up of cashew farmers, media practitioners and NGOs, is on course to championing the rights and voices of smallholder cashew farmers.
This follows the allocation of a Gh.c 500,000 grant by STAR Ghana Foundation to implement the second phase of the “Amplifying the Voices of Cashew Farmers” project.
This phase of the project will be implemented in four key cashew producing districts in the Bono Region namely Jaman North, Jaman South, Banda, and Tain.
The aim of this initiative is to deepen farmer engagement in policy dialogue, strengthen grassroots advocacy, and promote transparency and accountability in the cashew value chain.
“We are excited to continue this critical work with the generous support of STAR Ghana Foundation,” said Raphael Godlove Ahenu, National Coordinator of Cashew Watch Ghana. “This grant will help us expand our reach, empower more cashew farmers — especially women and youth — and strengthen their voice in sector governance.”
Targeted activities
Interacting with rbnewshub.com, Mr. Ahenu explained that the project will include a series of targeted activities such as community sensitization and farmer education forums, capacity building workshops on policy advocacy, radio talk shows and media engagements, monitoring and documentation of cashew-related policies and practices and district-level policy dialogues and stakeholder engagements.
According to him, over 1,000 smallholder farmers are expected to benefit directly, with an estimated 5,000 people reached indirectly through various awareness and advocacy campaigns.
Commitment
STAR Ghana Foundation is committed to enabling citizens to take action for sustainable and equitable development. Supporting Cashew Watch Ghana aligns with our vision of an active and engaged civil society contributing to inclusive and accountable governance.
The grant reflects STAR Ghana Foundation’s continued partnership with civil society organizations to drive citizen-led transformation and enhance the voice and influence of marginalized communities.
