ASA Savings and Loans marks Pink Month with free breast cancer screening in Konongo

ASA Savings and Loans Ghana has climaxed this year’s Pink Month activities with free breast cancer screening for market women and members of the public at the Konongo Main Market in the Ashanti Region.

The exercise, organised in partnership with the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Hospital, formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to promote breast cancer awareness and early detection.

Madam Rita Osei Bonsu of the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Hospital, who led the medical team, educated the market women on breast cancer, its symptoms and related health implications.

She encouraged them to seek prompt medical attention whenever they noticed any abnormalities in their breasts to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.

She also demonstrated how to conduct regular breast self-examinations to help detect unusual changes.

Belinda Aniwaa, a beneficiary of the screening and an ASA Savings and Loans client, commended the company for providing the opportunity to access free breast cancer screening.

Another beneficiary, Sophia Aboagye, also expressed appreciation to the company, saying the education provided by the medical team had deepened her understanding of breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

The Konongo Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, Silas Baidoo, underscored the importance of maintaining a healthy client base, noting that market women constituted an integral part of the company’s success.

“We work closely with market women, and it is important for us to help ensure that they remain healthy and strong so they can continue to do business with us,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout for the exercise.

The company’s CSR/Climate Change Officer for the Northern Sector, Ms Lily Opoku Mensah, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the well-being of its customers and the general public.

She said that since its establishment in February 2008, ASA Savings and Loans had undertaken several CSR initiatives, including providing boreholes to underserved communities, donating medical supplies to health facilities, organising free health screenings, supplying educational materials to schools and undertaking tree-planting activities.
