The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) today presented in-door and out-door sports kits to 16 beneficiary schools in Kenyasi Nunber Two and its surrounding communities in the Ahafo Region to promote sports development and holistic education.
The items, presented at a ceremony at the Kenyasi No. 2 Palace on Thursday, September 24, 2026, are expected to enhance sporting activities and encourage physical education among pupils and students in the beneficiary schools.
Each of the schools received a variety of sporting and recreational equipment, including footballs, sports jerseys, goalpost nets, goalkeeper gloves, table tennis boards and first aid kits.
The package also included sets of traditional games such as ludo, oware and draughts to encourage recreational activities and promote the development of students’ mental and social skills.
Holistic approach
Presenting the items, the Executive Secretary of NADeF, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to promoting quality education through a holistic approach in Newmont’s host communities in the Ahafo Region.
She emphasised the importance of complementing academic learning with sporting and recreational activities to support the all-round development of pupils and students.
TheAsutifi North District Director of Education, Madam Naomi Asantewaa, could not hide her joy over this gesture by NADeF, saying the items will go along way to boost co-curricular activities of the beneficiary schools.
She said the district has been doing well in the various sporting disciplines in the Ahafo Region and the country at large and noted that this gesture will further help to unearth more talents in the area.
For her part, the queen mother of Kenyasi Number Two, Nana Aboagyewaa Tinkwamaa, asked the beneficiary schools to put the items to good use and further encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously.
Beneficiary schools
The beneficiary schools are Odeneho School, Kenyasi No. 2 Roman Catholic Basic School, Methodist Junior High School, D/A Girls’ School, Dokyikrom JHS, Kwakuri School, Asempanay 3, Koforidua JHS, Gotifi JHS, Kenyasi No. 3, T.I. Ahmadiyya, Akosakrom D/A Primary and JHS, Kodiwohia JHS, Kwadwokrom JHS, Yebrefo and Kramokrom.
The donation forms part of NADeF’s efforts to support educational development and improve learning conditions in communities within Newmont’s host communities in Ahafo.
The provision of the sports kits is expected to equip the schools with the necessary materials to organise sporting activities, nurture sporting talents and promote teamwork, discipline and healthy lifestyles among students. The cost of the items is about Gh.c 320,000.00.
Chiarman of the Kenyasi Number Two Sustainable Development Committee, Gabriel Adu-Bonsu, thanked the chiefs and other stakeholders for their support towards this success story.
