Benkum SHS Visual Arts teacher wins Best Art Award

A Visual Arts tutor at Benkum Senior High School (SHS) in the Eastern Region, Bismark Mborchie, has won the Best Art award at the World Environment Day Celebration held at Okuapeman school in the Eastern Region.

The event, organized by the Ghana Wildlife Society (GWS) in collaboration with the Akuapem North Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), was aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.

The award-winning piece, titled “Restoration of Life,” was created using conventional materials such as plastic, rubber, and paper, which were recycled to form a unique collage.

Environmental sustainability

This masterpiece not only showcased Mr. Mborchie’s artistic skills but also highlighted the importance of reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable practices.

During the event, Professor Erasmus Henaku Owusu, a member of GWS, emphasized the significance of reusing and recycling plastic materials to mitigate plastic pollution.

He also discussed how recycling can generate income for communities and individuals, citing examples of artists worldwide who have utilized waste materials to create valuable products, such as dust bins from bottles.

Mr. Mborchie said, the win is a testament to creativity and commitment to promoting environmental sustainability through art.

He noted that the achievement must serve as an inspiration to students and educators alike, highlighting the potential of visual arts to drive positive change in society.

Mr. Mborchie is a passionate advocate for the visual arts, believing that it can play a vital role in addressing societal issues, including poverty and environmental degradation.
