Matina Agathony wins Miss Sankofa 2026

Nineteen-year-old Matina Agathony from Techiman emerged as the overall winner of Miss Sankofa Beauty Pageant held recently at Donkro Nkwanta near Nkoranza in the Bono East Region.

Organised by DNK Events Ghana, Miss Sankofa, which used to be called Miss Nkwanta, was full of fun, glitz, splendour and colour as several hundreds of people from far and near gathered at Donkro Nkwanta for this exciting event.

Inspired by the timeless wisdom of “Sankɔfa”, which reminds us to go back and fetch what is valuable from the past—we’re doubling down on our mission to celebrate Ghanaian culture, uplift women, and spark a future shaped by pride, purpose, and possibility.

The name ‘Sankɔfa’- derived from the Akan proverb ‘Sɛ wo werɛ firi na wo san kɔfa a yɛnkyiri’ (‘It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten’)- embodies the values of cultural reclamation, pride, and progress.

This year’s winner, Miss Matina Agathony, says she hopes to empower the youth against drug abuse, especially among young women.

Opoku Eugenia Agyeiwaa, a 20-year-old Biochemistry student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER) grabbed the second position.

Eugenia, who is from Donkro Nkwanta, also won the Top Model and the Most Eloquent contestant awards during the show.

The third position went to Miss Ernestina Wiafe from Nkoranza, a 19-year-old SHS student of the Kwebis Educational Complex.

19-year-old Tetteh Faustina Achiaa Korlekie, also from Nkoranza, took the 4th fourth position. She is currently pursuing Sustainable Mining at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani.

Artists that kept the audience spell-bound with their superb performances during the show were Small Pin Aie, Rap Cobra, T Jay, Mass and McSoul.

Sponsors for the event included Garet Hair Extensions, Pokra Herbal, K Boakye Boutique, Akomapa Cakes and Bites, Bruce Rentals, Justilo Pub and Stevies Gallery.

The CEO of DNK Events Ghana, Francis Fernaldinho Manu, in an interview, paid glowing tribute to the organizing team of the programme.
