Wesley Cathedral puts smiles on faces of the elderly

As part of activities marking this year’s Christmas celebrations, the Wesley Methodist Cathedral in Sunyani extended a gesture of love to its elderly members by presenting them with assorted items, bringing joy and smiles to their faces during the festive season.

The gesture formed part of the Cathedral’s broader efforts to share love, compassion, and peace during the festive season.

The presentation took place during the Christmas Day Church Service held at the Cathedral, highlighting the church’s commitment to caring for the aged and vulnerable within its congregation.

The Methodist Bishop of Sunyani, the Rt. Rev. Kwaku Effah, led the presentation alongside the Immediate-Past Lay President of the Church, Brother William Orleans Oduro, and the Superintendent Minister of the Sunyani Circuit, the Very Rev. Dr. Solomon Bruce. The trio took turns to present the items to the beneficiaries amid warm applause from the congregation.

Delivering the sermon on the theme “Peace” earlier, Rt. Rev. Effah reflected on the biblical character of Mary, the mother of Jesus, describing her as God-fearing, respectful, and dignified in her conduct within the community—qualities, he noted, that attracted God’s favour upon her life.

He also spoke about Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, portraying him as God-fearing, hardworking, and well-mannered. According to the Bishop, both Mary and Joseph were filled with and guided by the Holy Spirit in their daily lives.

Rt. Rev. Effah further emphasized that Jesus lived fully as a human being and underwent parental training under Mary and Joseph, underscoring the importance of godly upbringing and discipline.

He concluded by urging Christians to live in peace and harmony with one another, noting that such a lifestyle reflects the very example set by Jesus Christ.
