“And God said let us create humans in our image and likeness and let them rule over the fish in the sea, the birds of the air and the domestic animals all over the earth and all creatures that move over the earth. So, God created man in his own image. In the image of God, he created him, male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:26-27.
Have you ever wondered what is expected of humanity on earth? Have you also thought of why you are right here on this planet? Do you have any idea of how to execute the purpose for which you were created?
Our text for today tells us that the very idea that eventually gave existence to man came from God. If God mooted the idea of humanity, he also has a complete plan for our happy living and satisfaction. Only obey his words and you will fulfill his purpose to bless your life.
God’s divine purpose
Sometimes, when we are faced with difficulties in life, we tend to ask, “what at all did I come to do in this life, that nothing seems to work for me? This question ought to have been asked at the beginning of life, then, the answer from God in this text would have directed one’s path to fulfil God’s divine purpose for man. Unfortunately, for many people, they ask this question when they are almost at the point of no return and sometimes, even contemplating suicide.
Gods design of man- kind was to make him/her in his very own image and likeness. And that is exactly what God did and exactly who we are, if only you and I believe it.
This means, human beings represent God’s personality or being (image). So, when the creatures (animals, fishes, birds, etc.) see you, they MUST see God in you.
The likeness of God
Likewise, unbelievers must see God’s love, mercy, holiness, righteousness, creativity, wisdom, peace, salvation, etc. in you. Are these characteristics of God in you? If so, then you are on the path to living in the image of God.
The likeness of God requires that, being God’s image, you and I will do things like the way God does things.
By that, we shall command the authority of God.
