Some residents of Nkoranza South in the Bono East Region are pointing accusing fingers at the police for contributing to the rising numbers of the youth indulging in hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine in the area.
According to the residents, some police officer take bribes from people who are arrested for engaging in hard drugs, and allow them to go scot free, thereby emboldening more people, especially the youth to engage in this nefarious act.
This came to light during the on-going working visit by the Nkoranza South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Godfred Dapaa to various communities in the area.
A resident drew the MCE’s attention to the issue at one of the community engagements with the people.
The MCE is also using this opportunity to formally introduce himself to the communities and discuss possible ways of addressing their concerns.
In addition, the MCE has also been explaining various government programs and policies to the people as part of the tour.
Mr. Dapaa said in the interview that he will collaborate with the police to deal with the issue of hard drugs, emphasizing the need to identify the challenges confronting his people and exploring ways to address them.
According to him, some of the key challenges that have come up during his rounds include youth unemployment, the lack of social amenities such as electricity, streetlights, portable water, teachers’ quarters and health care facilities.
He further mentioned teaching and learning materials in various schools and security issues with Fulani herdsmen and their cattle as some of the concerns.
Unemployed graduates
The MCE urged assembly members to submit all unemployed school graduates in their electoral areas to his office, assuring them that several job opportunities are on their way coming.
He also emphasized the importance of unity among traditional leaders in supporting his efforts to deliver for the municipality.
“With a commitment to addressing the challenges facing the constituents, I am poised to make a meaningful impact on their lives”, he added.
