The Board of Trustees of the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) has undertaken an inspection tour of a number of development projects being funded by the Foundation in beneficiary communities in the Ahafo area.
The tour, which covered projects in Wamahinso, Gyedu, Ntotroso and Kenyasi, was aimed at assessing the progress and quality of ongoing projects, inspecting completed facilities and gaining first-hand knowledge of the impact of the interventions on beneficiary communities.
At Wamahinso, the Board inspected landscaping works involving paving and grassing at the Social Centre and Health Centre. The projects are intended to improve the appearance, accessibility, safety and overall functionality of the facilities for community members, patients, health workers and visitors. Both projects are ongoing and are expected to be completed in November 2026.
The Board also inspected the construction of a two-storey, four-unit chamber-and-hall nurses’ quarters at Wamahinso Health Centre. The facility is expected to provide accommodation for health personnel, improve staff welfare and availability, and enhance the Health Centre’s ability to respond to patients and emergencies. The project, which commenced in May 2025, was scheduled for completion and handover in September 2026.
Another significant project inspected at Wamahinso was the newly constructed police station, which has been completed. The facility, equipped with offices, male and female cells, washrooms, a kitchenette and an armoury, is expected to improve access to policing services, strengthen security and enhance police response to emergencies in Wamahinso and adjoining communities.
In the education sector, the Board inspected the construction of a two-storey, six-unit classroom block at Wamahinso R/C Primary School. The first phase covers the substructure and ground floor, comprising three classroom units, and is intended to address classroom shortages and provide a safer and more conducive learning environment.
At Gyedu, the Board inspected an ongoing three-storey, 18-unit classroom block for the Gyedu Technical Institute. The project is expected to increase the Institute’s students in-take capacity, address infrastructure deficits and provide improved facilities for technical and vocational education and skills development.
The tour also covered completed external works at the Gyedu Polyclinic, including landscaping, grassing, fencing and paving, as well as a completed 16-seater WC facility aimed at improving sanitation and public health in the community.
At Ntotroso, the Board inspected completed renovation works at the Methodist School, covering a four-unit kindergarten block, a six-unit primary block and another four-unit classroom block. The interventions are aimed at improving the condition, safety and functionality of the school facilities and creating more conducive environments for teaching and learning.
The Board further inspected the ongoing construction of a three-storey dormitory block at Twereku Ampem Senior High School, also at Ntotroso. The second phase of the project involves the structural frame and roofing and is expected to increase boarding accommodation capacity and reduce pressure on existing dormitories.
In Kenyasi No. 2, the inspection team visited completed access road and landscaping works around the four-storey lecture block of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Satellite Campus, as well as a completed four-unit pavilion classroom block. The interventions are intended to improve access and expand teaching and learning facilities at the campus.
At Kenyasi No. 1, the Board inspected completed infrastructure at the Event Park, including a perimeter fence, security post, entrance gate and lavatory facilities. The tour also covered major ongoing projects supporting the proposed establishment of a College of Education, including a two-storey administration block, a three-storey, 12-unit classroom block and a five-storey students’ hall residence.
The range of projects inspected reflects NADeF’s interventions across education, healthcare, security, sanitation and community infrastructure, with the various facilities expected to contribute to improved social services and quality of life in its beneficiary communities.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NADeF, Prof Yaw Ofosu-Kusi, told the media after the tour that he was impressed about the impact of the various interventions by the Foundation in the various host communities of Newmont and commended the various contractors working on infrastructural projects to the good work done.
