The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, has been awarded the Most Outstanding Leader (Public Universities category) at the 2025 Corporate Leadership Awards ceremony held in Accra.
Organized by the Imperial Communications Group, the Corporate Leadership Excellence Awards (CoLEA), recognizes visionary leaders who have propelled Ghana’s economy to new heights.
It is an innovative event dedicated to unveiling and honouring exceptional achievements in corporate prowess and further seeks to spotlight and celebrate individuals and organisations in Ghana that have demonstrated unparalleled excellence across dimensions such as innovation, leadership, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.
CoLEA aims to inspire a culture of continuous improvement by recognizing and showcasing outstanding organizations, thereby motivating others to strive for excellence in the dynamic corporate landscape.
It employs a meticulous evaluation process, featuring a distinguished panel of judges and ensures the highest standards of credibility and impartiality in acknowledging the crème de la crème in business and leadership within Ghana.
UENR VC
Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako is a Professor of Plant Virology and holds a Doctorate Degree in Plant and Environmental Sciences from the University of Warwick, UK, with specialization in Plant Virology. He also holds a Master of Philosophy Degree in Crop Science (Plant Pathology), Bachelor of Science in General Agriculture, and Diploma in Education, all from University of Cape Coast.
He specializes in virus diseases of horticultural, vegetable and food crops, with special interests in virus characterization, diagnostics, plant-virus-vector interactions, and development of integrated crop improvement strategies.
He has conducted several scientific research works including breeding for high yielding and virus-resistant crops, and has been involved in releasing several high yielding cowpea varieties that are resistant to viruses, striga and drought (2018) and two white flesh and three yellow flesh cassava (high beta carotene content) which are resistant to cassava mosaic disease (2018).
He is an innovator and mentor whose pioneering work in plant virology has transformed food security in Ghana.
As the current Vice-Chancellor of UENR, his visionary approach has redefined crop improvement strategies and empowered countless students and farmers alike.
Prof. Asare-Bediako’s research led to groundbreaking developments from high yielding disease-resistant cassava and cowpea varieties to innovative efforts in maize and aromatic rice improvements. His extensive contributions through peer-review publications and training programmes have cemented his reputation as a leader in his field.
Beyond his academic pursuit, he has served on numerous national and international committees, shaping policies and driving agricultural modernizations.
Recognized as Ghana’s most respected CEO in public universities and among Ghana’s one hundred most influential people, his achievement continues to inspire excellence and sustainable progress.
